Jadon Sancho has admitted that his call-up to the senior England squad came as a surprise.
The 18-year-old has impressed in the Bundesliga for Borussia Dortmund since making the switch from Manchester City last summer, and has made more assists than any other player in Europe's top six leagues this season.
Manager Gareth Southgate opted to include Sancho in his squad for the upcoming UEFA Nations League fixtures against Croatia and Spain, making him the first player born this century to feature in an England squad.
"I was at training when I first got the call-up and straight away I called my parents. Obviously they were delighted for me and I couldn't stop smiling the whole day," Sancho told Sky Sports during his first England press conference.
"I was a bit surprised to be fair because obviously I'm so young, I've got a lot to learn, I'm just grateful he's seeing my progress in the Bundesliga and I'm just very thankful."
