Twitter is killing off Vine

Recommended Posts

Kind of surprised to hear this. While it may have lost some of it's popularity, it seems most of the time that a popular site/app shuts down, it usually gets rolled into something else or at least sold off. For some reason, Twitter seems to make more mistakes than the other big social media companies.

I've never used Vine, so I can't say anything about the quality of service. With Twitter, I feel like they're acting like Yahoo some years ago. Still relatively popular, but apparently getting desperate for profitable side projects, and on the path for acquiring and discarding whatever looks like it might do the trick. I'd expect them to fumble a lot more before they realize they're making the same blunders many companies have done from being in the same spot.

I've always felt Vine was a waste of time, it just never stood out.

I can't say I would be bothered if it did go, plenty of better options and alternatives out there. Twitter will be fine, they adapt and although I agree that they do act desperate at times - they have too much celebrate power to fade and their instant updates is light years ahead of most social media.

There were some pretty funny bits on Vine. Not sure some of those people would have taken off if it weren't for that very unique environment at the time.

I ended up going to see a standup comedian (Bo Burnham) mostly off of seeing his bits on Vine.

It was actually alot of fun. I'm one of those people that doesn't like to be in the spotlight, so my biggest fear was that I was going to be pulled up on stage for one of the bits. Fortunately, the place was very large and the risk was very low. Because of that, I was able to relax and really enjoyed the show. I would put it on par with going to a concert and slightly above going to a good movie.

Bo Burnham. He sings or kind of raps a decent amount throughout the show. I only knew him through a few vines but went with a few other people that had watched his special on Netflix. Really wasn't sure what to expect but it was alot of fun. There were a few inside jokes that his big fans understood much better than I did. Even with that, I came out of the show thinking it was very funny and my opinion hasn't changed. That's usually a good sign.
